Kilmore Pilsner

This was my first grain brew using my own home grow Hops

Grain Bill:
2 kg Joe White Export Pilsner Malt

For the Mash:
To Infuse grain use 6 litres of 70°C water (strike temp).
Mash Schedule:60min @ 65° C

Sparge:
7L for 20min @ 72°C.

For the Boil:
Total Boil Time 60 Minutes

Start Boil:
– 10g Fresh Cascade hops
– (Boil for 60min)

At 50 Minute mark
– 7g Fresh Cascade hops
– (Boil for 10min)

At 58 minute mark
– Fresh Cascade hops
– (Boil for 2min)

Finished Volume
10 L

Fermentation:
Cool the wort and ferment as close as possible to 14°C Preferably with Saflager S23
But any good lager yeast will give a good result

My results
Starting SG – 1035
Final SG – 1005
Est Alc % – 4.5
Taste – Its a tiny bit one dimensional with just the cascade BUT It is a very nice light beer.
the fresh hops give it a different feel to using pre-packed frozen hop pellets.

Brew Notes:
This brew would be great for a light afternoon refreshment in spring after a few hours in the garden. Its refreshing without giving you that “heavy CBF doing any more work feeling”. I would  also think twice before sitting down for a Friday night session With of course the exception Its all I’ve got cold.
